In the spring of 2005, the Lloyd family received news that their youngest child Blair, age 17, was in a terrible car accident that caused him to have a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). After many brain surgeries and months in various hospitals and rehabilitation centers, Blair’s persevering mental and physical spirit allowed him to recover well, despite the odds given from the doctors and previous research. However, the effects of those years of recovery and the ongoing challenges of TBI have dramatically changed the lives of each member of the Lloyd family.
Now 23, Blair has his high school and college diploma to boast about, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He has worked with brain-injured individuals and is now working at an alternative school as a counselor. His older sister Katie recently completed her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Child, Family and Trauma therapy.
To show her support for individuals with TBI and their families, Katie is running in the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 20, 2011 on behalf of the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA). Please support Katie in her efforts to raise money to help prevent brain injury and improve the quality of life for people who have experienced brain injury and their family members, something very personal to her heart.
