Give the Gift of Prevention
Please support the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA) as we work to prevent brain injuries by presenting Brain Safety Fairs throughout the state. These family-friendly events focus on teaching children and adults how the brain works and how to keep their brains safe. A highlight is the fitting and distribution of free CPSC-approved bicycle helmets.
Gifts to our “Helmets for the Holidays: Give the Gift of Prevention” campaign support BIAPA’s prevention activities – hosting Brain Safety Fairs and distributing free bicycle helmets.
Supporting Helmets for the Holidays also makes a wonderful and meaningful gift.. If you’d like to make a gift in honor of a friend, family member or colleague, please note that information on our secure gift form, and we will notify him or her of your generosity.
Each fitting of a bike helmet costs BIAPA $15 including purchase, education, training and fitting. Please keep this in mind as you consider your level of support.
Bicycle Safety Facts
Bicycle helmets when worn correctly are 85% effective in preventing brain injuries.
More children ages 5 to 14 go to the hospital emergency department with injuries related to bicycling than any other sport.
Each year, bicycle-related crashes kill approximately 900 people; about 200 of those killed are children under 15.
Universal use of helmets could prevent one death every day and one brain injury every four minutes.
Half of all bike riders do not wear a helmet regularly, which is the single most effective protection against brain injury.
