Advocacy in Action at POTA 2026!
Dr. Michelle McCann, Board Member of the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA) and Chair of the BIAPA Outreach Committee, joined Dr. Richelle Walker, BIAPA Outreach Committee Member recently spoke at the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association (POTA) Annual Conference in Elizabethtown, PA. Their presentation focused on the critical services, supports, and resources available through BIAPA for individuals living with brain injury and their families.
The session highlighted the many ways occupational therapy practitioners can serve as essential partners in connecting clients, caregivers, and families to valuable community-based resources, advocacy initiatives, educational opportunities, and support services across Pennsylvania. Participants explored practical strategies for integrating these resources into clinical and community practice, strengthening outcomes and quality of life for those impacted by brain injury.
Brain injury affects individuals across the lifespan, and advocacy remains essential to ensuring that all Pennsylvanians have access to prevention education, necessary services, and ongoing support. Occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely positioned to help bridge the gap between healthcare services and community resources, empowering individuals and families to navigate the challenges of brain injury with dignity, opportunity, and hope.
A sincere thank you to everyone who attended, engaged in meaningful discussion, and continues to champion advocacy, education, and access for individuals affected by brain injury. Together, we can build stronger systems of support throughout Pennsylvania.
